Birmingham New Street

In Case Studies by topdrillnicci

Topdrill Ltd was instructed by BCS Design Ltd (BCS) on behalf of SRAHL to undertake a ground investigation for re-signalling works in the Birmingham area.

The fieldwork, undertaken from 17th Feb to 15th Aug 2015, comprised forty eight dynamic probes, ten windowless samples and four trial pits. These were carried out at various locations as part of the overall Birmingham New Street project. This includes the ELRs RBS2, SCL, PBJ, PBL, SSP and SAS lines in a corridor running eastwards from the area of the Bull Ring Shopping Centre, through north-eastern Birmingham, then turning south-east in the area of Tile Cross, through Birmingham Airport and ending around Hampton in Arden.

Poor access has always been an issue for railway works. We fully utilised our resources to best suite each site’s condition, which include LLAMR rigs (Light-weight Limited Access Modular Rig), Handheld window / windowless sampling rigs and Dynamic probing medium. We have saved money by reducing the possessions and line blockages required, and completed the jobs in a timely manner.
